There is no doubt that OnePlus offers one of the best smartphones. But can we say the same for the software support? For some of their devices they have a very good track record, but for others, they messed up completely. Remember what happened with OnePlus 2 and OnePlus X? Now when the the release of Android O is just around the corner there are few rumors going around for past few weeks. People are not sure if Android O for OnePlus 3 and 3T will be released officially. Right now people are not sure what to expect from the company.

Finally, all speculations are now over. OnePlus head of product, Oliver, answered few questions. According to him, Android O for OnePlus 3 and 3T will be last major update for the duo. They will not receive any other major upgrade after Android O. However; he also mentioned that duo would keep receiving the security patches and other application updates. This will make sure that users keep on enjoying a smooth and secure user experience. He also mentioned that after Android O update for OnePlus 3 and 3T, the Open Beta Program will move to OnePlus 5.
He also added the duo would receive the August security patches in a couple of months. They also get the latest Oxygen OS within 1 to 2 months. With an update to Oxygen OS 4.5, they will catch up with OnePlus 5 regarding software. However, OnePlus 3 and 3T will not get all the Oxygen OS features due to hardware restrictions. Reading Mode, off-screen gestures, and DCI-P3 screen calibration will not make way to OnePlus 3 and 3T. This is mainly because of the hardware limitation and nothing else.
Considering that Android O for OnePlus 3 and 3T would be the last major update is quite annoying for most of the people out there. These devices are hardly one year old and company has already planned to leave them out from the future updates.
