How to Lock and Unlock Android Phone Using Google Assistant?

Google Assistant is definitely the best AI assistant available in the market right now. Its integration with Google’s Allo app is incredible. However, it still lags behind Google Now. But assuming that these are still early days, we expect it to cover the areas where it lags behind the Google Now. Google Assistant has a lot to offer. From giving live traffic updates to playing music for you; Google Assistant can do anything you want. I am sure most of you must be aware with the basic functionality of Google Assistant. It can do a lot more for you. You can even lock and unlock Android phone using Google Assistant. Isn’t it amazing?

Most of you may be aware of the way to unlock Android phone using Google Assistant. However, it is not simple to lock the Android phone with most intelligent assistant out there. You can do this, but you have to trick the AI to make it do this for you. Make sure you have the Google Assistant on your phone. It is officially available for all Android devices running Android 6.0 or higher. If you do not have the Google Assistant on your phone then you should watch the below video to install it.

Unlock Android Phone Using Google Assistant

Now we assume you have Google Assistant on your smartphone. So, before we move ahead and find out the method to unlock the phone using Google Assistant let’s find out how we can unlock our devices using it. First and the most important thing is that lock screen security should be enabled on the device. You should enable either one of Pattern, Pin, Password or fingerprint.

So, if you have the lock screen security enabled then you are good to go. Now¬†go to¬†Settings > Security > Smart Lock, enter your pattern, password or PIN and then select¬†Trusted Voice.¬†Select¬†Say ‚ÄúOk Google‚ÄĚ anytime¬†to activate the service.

If by an chance you do not see Smart Lock option then go to Settings > Security and scroll down. Select Trusted Agents and toggle on the Smart Lock option. It will now show up in your security settings.

However, we do not recommend you to use it to unlock your phone. It is not at all secure because anyone with a voice similar to you can unlock your phone. But still it is a nice feature to have on the phone.

Lock Android Phone With Google Assistant

Though Google Assistant does not allow you to the lock your Android phone but there is a work around. There are few applications which help you with locking your smartphone. Personally we will recommend you to use Screen Off. You can download it from here.

First of all download and install the Screen Off application from the above link. Now when you launch the application it will ask you provide the Device Administrator right. Tap on Activate Button to provide the requested access.

Now open Google Assistant and tap on blue colored drawer icon. Now tap on the three vertical dots on the top right corner. From there go to Settings > Shortcuts. Now tap on the blue color plus icon at the bottom right corner of the screen. Now add the following information in the given fields.

  1. When I say Ok Google: Lock phone
  2. Google Assistant Should do: Open Screen Off

Now we are done with this. You can easily lock Android phone with Google Assistant. All you have to say is¬†‚ÄúOk Google Lock Phone‚ÄĚ. It was simple. In fact very simple to lock Android phone using Google Assistant. Here is a tip; whenever you say Ok Google make sure to give a short pause otherwise Assitant may show you some search results instead of opening the application.
